## About the author

Grosan-Flaviu Gheorghe is a software architect and engineering leader based in the United Kingdom, working at the intersection of AI systems and scalable software. He started programming at the age of seven on a ZX Spectrum, moved to FreeBSD in the late 1990s, then to Linux, and maintains his own custom Linux distribution.

His career spans senior architecture and engineering leadership roles for TripAdvisor, NBC Universal, Sony Music, and IAG (International Airlines Group). In 2017 he founded his first AI startup, building industrial machine vision and data analytics systems. Earlier in his career he worked in software security and wrote exploit code during high school and university.

## Engineering leadership

As an engineering leader he has managed globally distributed teams ranging from four to thirty engineers across multiple timezones. He is known for building "mafia teams" - tightly-bonded teams that work well together, stay in touch long after leaving a company, and keep collaborating across roles and ventures. His leadership focus is on shaping careers, kickstarting engineers into the field, and upskilling existing teams.
